Repaired Fisher 2 module. Added a couple of sidings and renamed the module “Brennan’s Woods”

More 2ft inside 90 module progress

This yet to be named module now has roadbed installed on the mainlines as well as the branchline. 

Brass screws are installed to solder the rails to. 

Next step is to drill alignment pin holes on each frontier.

2ft inside 90 progress

Got the waffle painted and have started on roadbed installation. 

This module has the 8/10 mains to the inside at 32" and 34" radii curves and the branchline radius is 45"

Gandy dancers are working today

One of two 4ft Outside 90 deg curves being finished up after years of delays. The outside radius of the module is 48" so the track radii are at 40", 38" and 31"

Grain Elevator Modules

     The 'easy' end has alignment pin holes drilled and track installed part way across the module.  Will get the 'hard' end drilled this evening and maybe the track down onto the end of the module

Working on the other end of the grain elevator module set. This will be an 18ft

 long married set capable of handling two 20 car grain trains one inbound (empty)

 and one outbound (loaded). Anhydrous ammonia tanks will be located here as well to bring in nitrogen fertilizer by railcar

A crossover to the 10 as well as a crossover between the 8 and the 10 

A standard 3 track in/out "Fisher #1" 

Scenery will be rails through the countryside for scenery. 

Grain Elevator module -  

One end of a 3 module married set.

Includes a crossover on the mains - not that the mains are shifted 

4" to the front edge 

This allows for a bit more flexibility on the branchline scenery 

but makes it a non-standard mainline module that is married to 

the corresponding Grain elevator module that brings the mains back to the 

standard 8"/10" location from the front edge of the module.

Alignment pins are cut in 4 quadrants and then the kerfs are closed up by bending the tabs that are formed by the cuts resulting in a tapered pin to ease assembly 

Emery cloth and filing is required to deburr the pin and smooth the surfaces 

Four holes in each end of the modules with the pins in the left hand holes of each pair of holes. When joined each modules is aligned with 4 pins making for a precise and rigid joint. Pin location is relative to the RAILHEAD'slocation so rails are brought to the edge of the module and are aligned to within thousandths of an inch

Update

This is an under construction shot of the 18ft straight module set 

that will become Garden City CO-OP. At this point nearly all the roadbed is down on the 3 modules. The two end modules are operational now (2015 update)

Sharing a few pics from the weekend's activities indexed by the last 4 numbers on the file name.

1022 - an overhead shot of the space available to fill with modules - a former Masonic Lodge meeting room.

0529 - 45 deg 8ft OS curve # 6 - need to glue in four more pieces and it will be ready for the waffle bottom. 
A 45deg curved Speed-mo module can be seen in the upper right hand corner of this photo.

0418 - 45 deg 8ft OS curve # 5 - ready for the waffle bottom

0302 - 6ft Depressed center flat - on legs today - some cleanup to do in the trimming department
it's mate may be seen in the upper center of the overhead shot. Has a 45deg curved module top/bottom lying on top of it.

3427 - 45 deg 8ft OS curve # 4 - ready for the waffle bottom -- this one fully assembled in the RV !

Will get started this week on the last pair of 45deg curves required to complete the 360 degrees of curvature.

Speed-mo - a modular experiment

I am working on a Free-mo module which is an experiment Joe Balint, Jr - noted developer of the waffle-frame module - have been having conversations about.

Basically it is a Free-mo module that has been built as a waffle frame and has a track on the 15 location of the S&SSofNC template. So - it has four alignment pins and quick disconnects and will receive legs with casters to enable it's integration into a S&SSofNC layout . A removable 1 inch  thick adapter plate will be applied to each end to allow connection to a Free-mo layout as well.

The trackplan and layout dimensional sketches is what I've developed thus far

5 of 6 modules in progress in Garden City KS. Initial plans are to build eight 45deg 8ft outside curved modules and ten 6ft straight modules.

Laying Track @ Griffin Jct

Coming along slow but sure. The wye is in.
#10R on the tail.
#6R on the East end of the Wye and a
#8L at the West end of the Wye.

Crossings at the double track mains will be handlaid.

After a practice run on a piece of scrap lauan I'll complete the crossings on the module.
